*American Version
The American version of Cinderella is
about a girl who lives with her step mother and two step sisters. The prince
is going to have a ball. Cinderella’s fairy godmother makes her dream come
true and Cinderella goes to the ball. As she leaves she loses her glass
slipper and the prince uses the slipper to find Cinderella and when he does
they get married and live happily ever after.

Tattercoats

*England Version
In England the version of Cinderella
has a twist. The girl in the story is named Tattercoats who lives with her
grandfather. Her Grandfather despises her because he mother died while giving
birth to Tattercoats. The Prince announces he is going to have a ball and
Tattercoats walks to the Palace to watch. Om the way she meets a wealthy man
who falls in love and purposes. She does not accept but does accept to go to
the ball at midnight. She shows up in her ripped clothes and everyone laughs.
The wealthy man ends up being the Prince and he confesses his love and
purposes and they get married and live happily ever after.

Yeh-Shen,
A Cinderella Story
|
*China Version
Yeh-Shen lives with her step mother
and step sister. In the beginning the step mother kills Yeh-Shen’s favorite
fish and Yeh-Shen is devastated. Yeh-Shen goes to the King’s ball dressed in
a gown that was gold and looked like beautiful fish scales and was wearing
gold slippers. When she ran away one slipper fell off and then the king sets
the shoe for display so the owner will come get it. Yeh-Shen tries to steal
the slipper but gets caught and the king does not believe it is her show
because she could never afford it. When she shows him the other slipper he realizes
her true beauty in her and they get married.

Children read literature with an open mind hopefully finding a way to relate to what they are reading. In order for this to happen children have to explore the different portals through literature such as fairytales, different characters and even non fiction books. Every book will lead a child through a different portal allowing different connections to develop.
