Rumpelstiltskin book response

This story was very interesting. It was a fairytale I had never heard of before. I enjoyed the literature because not only did it have a very good story plot, but with the main character Rumpelstiltskin it is easy to see the basic story elements of protagonist, problem, antagonist, climax, and resolution through the literature. I felt the book was clear and it was a folktale that was appropriate and it caught my attention because I was always wondering what Rumplestiltskin was going to ask for in return if he would spin the straw into gold. The last time he goes to spin, he asks for the Queens first born child and it immediately grabbed my attention because thoughts started and I was asking questions what if he gets the baby? How will he know? Is it really possible, what will the queen tell the king? I felt that when reading this book I was able to follow along and gather questions from the story because I was interested. It was a great folktale and I would recommend it to anyone!

Folktale Comparison

Book

Culture Version

*American Version

The American version of Cinderella is about a girl who lives with her step mother and two step sisters. The prince is going to have a ball. As she leaves she loses her glass slipper and the prince uses the slipper to find Cinderella and when he does they get married and live happily ever after.

Yeh-Shen, A Cinderella Story

*China Version

Yeh-Shen lives with her step mother and step sister. In the beginning the step mother kills Yeh-Shen’s favorite fish and Yeh-Shen is devastated. Yeh-Shen goes to the King’s ball dressed in a gown that was gold and looked like beautiful fish scales and was wearing gold slippers. When she ran away one slipper fell off and then the king sets the shoe for display so the owner will come get it. Yeh-Shen tries to steal the slipper but gets caught and the king does not believe it is her show because she could never afford it. When she shows him the other slipper he realizes her true beauty in her and they get married.

Universal theme- Cinderella has many different themes but as you read each one they all come close to the same story line just different characters. Every version had a ball and was about a poor girl who ends up marrying into royalty because of her beauty.

Different Cultures- The American version I feel shows our cultural in just the elegant old fashion way. Throughout the other two versions even through the pictures viewed online you can see difference in food and their attire.

Why I have the vision I do.

Growing up I never had the family every child dreamt of having. My parents were in and out of my life and I don't remember them being in my childhood that much. What I do remember through those years were my teachers. Being at school I felt loved and cared about and it was the reason I kept on going. My teachers gave me a reason to keep moving and to never give up. I only grew up to realize how much my teachers impacted me. I want nothing more than to be the light that guides students to succeeding. I have a heart for children that continually grows. I love to watch children learn and to grow. I cannot wait to be apart of that journey with them and to be the reason they keep moving forward and to never give up.
